      THE POETRY OF EARTH

*** The title "The Poetry of Earth" presents the theme of the poem.

In the sonnet, 'The Poetry of Earth by 'John Keats' develops the theme that the music in Nature never stops through the cycle of seasons. He uses the Petrarchan form of the

sonnet to depict (Show) the unceasing music of the nature. The poetry of the earth presents

the song of the grasshopper and the cricket as the natural music of the two different seasons of summer and winter. In the poem 'The poetry of Earth' keats has drawn a fine picture of Summer in the octave and that of winter in the sestet.

In summer, when the song-birds are tired with the hot sun and take shelter in the cooling trees. At that time they stop singing then the Grasshopper comes forward and

takes over the responsibility. He sings running from hedge to hedge Undisturbed by the scorching sun.he expresses immense joy.Thus, the Grasshopper becomes the poet of Summer.After the completion of his task, he takes rest beneath some pleasant

weed.

The sestet describes 'a lone winter evening. The buzzing activity of summer comes to stop in the frost of winter. In the lonely wintry evening, all on earth keep indoors. An atmosphere of silence prevails all around. Even then the poetry of earth continues without any Stop .The stillness of a winter evening is broken by cricket's song. He Becomes the poet of winter. In a bitterly cold winter evening the cricket sings in shrill voice and breaks the icy silence prevailing everywhere. It finds the warmth of the stove. From the stove comes out the shrill song of the cricket. With increasing warmth, it sings louder and louder. To a person half asleep in drowsiness the music of

cricket comes as a reminder of the Grasshopper's song in summer among the grassy hills. Thus, the grasshoppers and crickets continue their symphony to the earth and

the song of Nature continues with the season- cycle.
